Friday 13th September; still Gävle

So, plans are now confirmed: Kjugekull is out and we’re heading an hour and a half North to Fredrik’s “Summer house”. There, i intend to find some new and unclimbed boulders, perhaps my debut first ascent, and a hell of a good time in the company of some new and some old friends. As of half an hour ago, what i don’t expect to find is electricity, running water or flushing toilets…

I don’t mind at all, it’s just camping with a solid roof instead of a nylon one, but it was a bit of a surprise! And i must admit it was a pleasant one. There is a lot to be said for this type of trip, as eluded to in my previous post, and it is relaxing. Yet, there is something quite exciting about the idea of somewhere entirely new, without the luxury of a guidebook. Fredrik can’t quite believe i have never managed to get a first ascent next to my name in a guide and i had to explain that it just isn’t very possible in the UK unless you climb quite hard or look even harder. Still, this afternoon’s return session to Trödje was fantastically successful, with six flashes and a 7a redpoint of Lill Hitler, confirming what i thought two days ago: it is a great little crag. The next few days will undoubtedly tell their own story.
